In Pueblo culture, pottery is significant and vital. It is vital for ceremonial purposes and for this reason alone; it is an important part of religious beliefs. Pottery is significant to everyday life and a means of teaching Pueblo culture. It is both decorative and functional. It has survived for millennia and will continue to do so.
Na cultura Pueblo a cerâmica é significativa e vital para finalidades cerimoniais e por esta única razão é importante parte das crenças religiosas. A cerâmica é importante para todos os dias da vida e o sentido do apreender da cultura Pueblo. E simultaneamente decorativa e funcional, sobreviveu por milhões de anos e continua ainda hoje.
In April of this year a number of Guarani tribal members and Roxanne Swentzell (Santa Clara Pueblo) participated in the historic process of Guarani pottery revitalization. The tribes currently living in the Rio de Janeiro area haven’t made pottery since the 1880’s.
No mês de abril deste ano, um grupo de membros do povo Guarani e Roxanne Swentzell (Santa Clara Pueblo) participaram do processo histórico de revitalização da cerâmica. As tribos que normalmente vivem na área do Rio de Janeiro não têm feito cerâmica des de 1880.
In part the workshop’s purpose was to share awareness and to teach the basic processes of ceramics and ceramic sculpture while encouraging the participants to create their own culturally related designs. Roxanne Swentzell’s eagerness and sensibility as an artist reflects a long tradition of Pueblo people. Fortunate were the Guarani with whom she willingly shared her enthusiasm. It is a reflection of the past on the future.
Em parte, a proposta do workshop foi compartilhar a consciência e ensinar o processo básico da modelagem em cerâmica e escultura que encorajasse os participantes a criar seus próprios desenhos e relatos culturais. A ansiedade de Roxanne Swentzell e sua sensibilidade como artista reflete a longa tradição da gente do Pueblo. Afortunados foram os Guarani com quem ela compartilhou seu entusiasmo.
The process mirrors the instructional methods at the Poeh Cultural Center here at Pojoaque Pueblo. It is a pleasure to report that from our point of view and experience, this recent effort in Paraty Mirim was highly successful and has the potential to enable the participants to continue the preservation of this cultural manifestation and also provide themselves with an economic venue.
No informe de acompanhamento temos fotografias que ilustram esta revitalização assim como a essência que descreve o processo do programa. Este processo reflete o método aplicado no Centro Cultural Poeh, aqui em Pojoaque Pueblo. E um prazer relatar isto do nosso ponto de vista e experiência, pois este recente esforço em Paraty Mirim foi de màximo sucesso e teve o poder de possibilitar aos participantes continuar com a preservação desta manifestação cultural e também provê-los de uma economia auto-sustentável.
